Trips

Exploring caves is the primary goal of Grotto members. The Grotto runs regular trips to caves in our area. We also participate in trips with other cavers in California. While we don't have any (m)any caves in Sonoma County, members make day trips to Calaveras County and weekend trips to places further afield. Members have recently visited caves in Modoc County, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks, Santa Cruz and the Marble Mountains.

If you're an experienced caver or new to caving you are welcome to join us on a trip. Contact us to join our e-mail list and find out about up coming meetings and trips. If you're new to caving you may have some questions about the Basic Equipment that is required to safely explore caves. If you don't have access to equipment, contact the trip leader to see if a member is able to loan you equipment for the trip. Some caves require competence in Vertical Caving techniques to safely ascend and descends pits on rope. The Grotto has hosted Vertical Practices that allow cavers to learn and practice the techniques or try a piece of new equipment. It's a good idea to come to a practice prior to purchasing equipment.
