The Redwood Grotto is a chapter of the National Speleological Society
A caving club located in Sonoma County, Northern California.
Caves are a fragile ecosystem that took millenia to form and can be destroyed in a fraction of a second.
The Grotto supports the concepts of Leave No Trace.
Sonoma County is devoid of caves: there may be a talus cave and a sea cave or two but otherwise members travel to Calaveras and Modoc Counties amongst others for caving.
Most Grotto trips are day trips to local caves with members car pooling from Sonoma County. Occasionally, we will organize weekend trips to more remote locations such as Modoc county.
Membership is open to all that share an interest in caves and are willing to cave responsibily. Outside of COVID times we generally meet on a monthly basis for business and social purposes.
